Insurance
Some of our providers are in network with Optum/United Healthcare insurance and others are self-pay only, where we can provide you with a superbill that you can download and submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. To find out your insurance company’s reimbursement rates, please call the number on the back of your health insurance card. For more information about which providers are in network with insurance, check out our counselor bios here: https://www.comoclinic.com/counselors. As noted above, our psychiatry team is out of network with insurance at our clinic.
A few things to consider regarding using your insurance for counseling services:
Diagnosis requirement: Most insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis to approve and reimburse counseling services. This means your provider must assess and document specific symptoms, which then become part of your medical record. If you choose to pay privately, a diagnosis does not need to be recorded.
Coverage limitations: Insurance plans often place limits on the number, frequency, or types of sessions they will cover. This can sometimes affect the continuity or scope of your care.
Requests for additional information: In some cases, your insurance provider may request further details, such as your treatment plan, progress updates, or information about any prescribed medications. If such information is requested, you will be notified.
Paying out of pocket offers greater flexibility. You can choose your provider freely and access a wider range of services without restrictions imposed by insurance.
First Responder Support Scholarship
We also accept the First Responder Support Mental Health Resilience Scholarship. If you are a first responder in Boone County, MO, you can apply online for a scholarship that will cover a portion of your costs for counseling and/or psychiatry services. For more information on our services for First Responders, click here. For more information on the Mental Health Resilience Scholarship (provided by First Responder Support (FRS), see First Responder Support.
Good Faith Estimate
In accordance with the No Surprises Act, all healthcare providers are required to notify patients and potential patients of their federal rights and protections against “surprise billing.” The purpose of this Act, and the Good Faith Estimate, is to protect you from unexpected medical bills. Providing a Good Faith Estimate is particularly challenging in mental health care because it is difficult to predict the frequency and length of treatment. You and your provider will collaborate on what is most appropriate for you. The Good Faith Estimate will be provided to you if you are not using health insurance benefits.
No Show and Late Cancellation Policy
We understand that sometimes you may need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. However, if you book an appointment, you must give us at least 24 hours notice, otherwise you will be charged the full fee for the appointment, regardless of the reason. To cancel, contact your provider directly or call our office at 573.239.9915 (must leave voicemail), or email us at office@comoclinic.com.
